Gemstone information:
Rocks and minerals used in
jewelry-making are generally very safe. It should, however, be noted
that a certain dose of caution is in order with some, as, for example,
their chemical composition can change under certain circumstances or
their dust (should they be broken or scratched) could be harmful. Pyrite
is one of these minerals - never lick or ingest Pyrite (OK, so you
won't, but keep it away from your kids), always wash your hands after
handling it, and, if it breaks, avoid inhaling the dust. This is not to
scare you - it is obviously safe for normal use, or the government would
not allow jewelry components to be made of it, would it? But I believe
it is good to be informed. |
