Obsidian
is a hard (but brittle) volcanic glass. Sometimes it has gas bubbles
trapped from the lava flow and aligned along layers which are created as
molten rock flows before cooling, giving it a sheen or, in this case, a
rainbow. You may be interested to learn that, because its fractures have
very sharp edges, Obsidian blades are sometimes used for surgery. |
